UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie is currently in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she has been communicating with refugees who are trying to return home after years of exile.
In a new statement, the actress, 35, is speaking out in support of those fleeing the turbulent nation of Libya, as well as those in Africa's Cote d'Ivoire.
"We don't want to look back and find their deaths on our hands," Jolie said. "As we witness these newest crises unfold in west and north Africa, it is critical that all parties respect the fundamental right of people in danger to flee to safety. All I'm asking is that civilians be protected and not targeted or harmed."
The Tourist actress is urging for international support of those in need, in hopes of getting some of the chaos in these nations under control.
"We need to remember that if we don't support these people in the long term to really get back on their feet, we will see a continued cycle of instability and new crises," she said.
The mom of six continues to amaze -- and never seems to take a break. When she's not filming or promoting a new flick, Brad Pitt's superwoman continues to try and make the world a better place.
Jolie's latest outreach is just one more example of her goodwill, which is why iVillagers chose her as the Star Who Makes Us Proud to Be a Woman in the 2nd Annual iVillage Entertainment Awards!
